There Was A Man Named John McCain

UPDATE — If I redid this it would be to suggest that McCain continues to rave.

There Was A Man Named John McCain — A Sea Chanty that is sung in the environs of Sedona in this year of our Lord 2010.

There was a man named John McCain
A name once bathed in honor
And now this man named John McCain
Is close to being a goner

This man we knew as John McCain
Was hardly perfect — my no
He cursed his spouse and gambled hard
But no one wondered — why so

That’s John they said
That’s John McCain
A hero and a good guy
That’s John they cried
We love him well
If he should change don’t ask why

But change he did ambition grew
The White House in the offing
He battled Bush and he got bashed
His steel began to soften

And then by chance or happenstance
The prize seemed his for taking
Oh but Barack was on the scene
And he proved John’s unmaking

That’s John they said
That’s John McCain
A hero and a good guy
That’s John they cried
We love him well
If he should change don’t ask why

The Devil came to John McCain
And made a little bargain
We’ll smash this man they call Barack
Give me your soul and we’ll win

John sold his soul but was betrayed
The Devil could not save him
Barack marched on to victory
And John gave up his raving

That’s John they said
That’s John McCain
A hero and a good guy
That’s John they cried
We love him well
If he should change don’t ask why
