Twitter Tip: Using Twitterholic To Get Followers

Twitter Tip: Using Twitterholic To Get Followers

Let’s do this together. Go to Twitterholic.com

It’ll open in a new window. It’s very simple. Twitterholic ranks the most popular Twitter pages. If you scroll down on the home page, you will find the following options.

Top 100 | Top 200 | Top 300 | Top 400 | Top 500 | Top 600 | Top 700 | Top 800 | Top 900 | Top 1000

Here is what I have begun to do. Starting with the top 1000 (bottom of the list), I will check each entry to see if it interests me.

If someone has tons of followers but few friends, it means your chances of being followed by that person are virtually nil. I go for users who have lots of friends. I already am following many of the top 1000. But since I have started this process, I have had follows that I recognize from inviting still more popular users.  The ones who respond are, like me, building all the time.

Here is how to do this easily.

When you are interested in following someone on the Twitterholic list, click on the left hand link next to the image of the user. This takes you to their stats page. There, click on the person’s Twitter (profile) page — the upper link on the left.

Once on the Twitter page, follow the person. Also check out the person’s followers to see if you are interested in following any on that list.

With popular users who have few friends listed, I  check their friends list and follow persons that interest me.

Twitterholic is small enough — focusing on the 1000 users with the most followers — to be usable manually.  I think automated following is destructive. Following with care manually results in plenty of quality responses and a much more focused result.

None of this makes sense unless you have something to say that interests or inspires others. When you have followers with large followings, your Tweet has potentially wide influence. Search for your actual name as well as your @name and you will be amazed to see much more action than you imagined if your updates are salient and picked up by others.
